Our Services

We are experienced in helping adults improve their speech, communication, social interactions, swallowing and voice. Difficulties may occur due to many different causes including stroke, traumatic brain injury, autism, ADHD, intellectual disability or learning difficulties. We also assist in managing communication and swallowing difficulties due to progressive neurological conditions.

Our therapy approach is individualised for each person to meet your specific needs as each person’s goals will be different.

    Communication Skills

    We aim to assist you to develop your ability to articulate sounds, form sentences and express yourself more confidently in all aspects of your daily life. We provide comprehensive diagnostic assessments and targeted interventions.

    Adult Speech Pathology

    Communiskills offers a range of assessment and intervention services to adults experiencing communication, social or swallowing difficulties. We work with adult clients with various diagnoses including ASD, ADHD, neurological disorders, acquired brain injury and Downs Syndrome. Our practice accepts referrals from GPs, Medical Specialists, other allied health professionals, aged care providers, WorkCover, NDIS plan managed or self-managed clients, and by individuals or their carers.

    Voice

    We help to strengthen your voice and ability to project your voice so you can communicate in loud environments such as your favourite cafe or in group social activities.

    You may be required to speak for long periods for work and be experiencing vocal strain. We aim to work with you to develop strategies to care for your voice.

    Literacy and Numeracy Support

    Communiskills offers individualised one to one literacy support for children who are struggling academically at school. We work with your child to identify the best approach to enable your child to learn to read, spell and write successfully and to assist them to develop their enjoyment of learning, self esteem and confidence in their ability. We use an explicit and systematic phonics and structured literacy approach based on the science of reading.

    Communiskills also offers personalised, one to one numeracy support/maths tutoring after school for children with additional learning needs. We endeavour to build their understanding and confidence in a supportive environment.

    Telehealth

    Autism Assessments

    Our Principal Speech Pathologist is experienced in providing comprehensive diagnostic Speech Pathology assessments as part of a multidisciplinary paediatric team assessment for the possibility of a diagnosis of Autism. A detailed written report including recommendations for intervention is provided to you and your child’s Paediatrician.

    Speech Pathology in Aged Care

    Communiskills offers on-site assessment and ongoing management of swallowing and communication difficulties for clients in residential aged care facilities or at home. This includes an assessment and recommendations regarding food/fluid consistencies and safe swallowing strategies.

    Speech Pathology for Young Adults

    Communiskills provides communication, social and swallowing assessment/intervention for young adult clients.

    Therapy Assistant - in Clinic or Preschool/Childcare Visits

    Communiskills aims to support our clients to achieve their goals. To enable this we also offer the option of a combined therapist and therapy assistant option. An experienced Speech Pathologist completes the assessment and develops a therapy plan. The therapy assistant then implements the therapy plan under the guidance and direction of the experienced therapist who reviews and adjusts the program as needed.

Therapy is tailored to each child’s needs, unique abilities and interests.

We assist your child to develop the skills needed to achieve success at preschool and school. Parents are included in therapy sessions at all times and we work collaboratively with you to assist your child to achieve their goals.

Swallowing and/or communication issues can be isolating and frustrating for you, your family, colleagues and friends. Consulting a Speech Pathologist can help you improve your speech clarity, volume, language skills and swallowing.

 Our clinicians provide interventions in the areas of:

  • How much your child understands of spoken language

  • Your child’s ability to use words, sentences, grammar and vocabulary to communicate both in spoken language and written language.

  • Your child’s social use of language to interact with others including conversation skills and non-verbal communication.

  • The ability to spell, read and write.

  • The ability to produce sounds correctly in words and in connected speech.

  • The ability to speak fluently without stuttering.

  • The ability to play and socialise with others including peers.

  • Use of speech generating devices, customised iPad communication apps, Picture Communication, Key Word signing.
